PVE maj\u00ed pochopiteln\u011b sv\u00e9 nev\u00fdhody &#8211; tato specifick\u00e1 technick\u00e1 za\u0159\u00edzen\u00ed m\u016f\u017eete budovat pouze ve vybran\u00fdch lokalit\u00e1ch s\u00a0velk\u00fdm ter\u00e9nn\u00edm p\u0159ev\u00fd\u0161en\u00edm. Velmi obt\u00ed\u017en\u00e1 a n\u00e1kladn\u00e1 je tak\u00e9 samotn\u00e1 realizace v\u00fdstavby.P\u0159e\u010derp\u00e1vac\u00ed vodn\u00ed elektr\u00e1rna sest\u00e1v\u00e1 z\u00a0horn\u00ed a doln\u00ed n\u00e1dr\u017ee, mezi nimi\u017e proud\u00ed v\u00a0tlakov\u00fdch ocelov\u00fdch trubk\u00e1ch (p\u0159ivad\u011b\u010d\u00edch) voda. P\u0159ivad\u011b\u010de jsou vybaveny vyrovn\u00e1vac\u00edmi komorami, kter\u00e9 reaguj\u00ed na vznikaj\u00edc\u00ed hydraulick\u00e9 r\u00e1zy p\u0159i pohybu vodn\u00edho sloupce. Elektr\u00e1rny jsou dvoj\u00edho druhu, bu\u010f je horn\u00ed n\u00e1dr\u017e bez p\u0159irozen\u00e9ho vodn\u00edho p\u0159\u00edtoku (um\u011bl\u00e1), co\u017e je nap\u0159\u00edklad elektr\u00e1rna Dlouh\u00e9 Str\u00e1n\u011b, nebo m\u00e1 tzv. sm\u00ed\u0161enou akumulaci. To je v\u00a0podstat\u011b p\u0159ehrada s\u00a0p\u0159irozen\u00fdm p\u0159\u00edtokem vody (\u0159eka, potok), p\u0159i\u010dem\u017e doln\u00ed n\u00e1dr\u017e slou\u017e\u00ed sou\u010dasn\u011b jako vyrovn\u00e1vac\u00ed zdroj.
